HIMT 208 - Health Information Externship II

Provides the student with the opportunity to apply acquired health information technical knowledge in healthcare settings.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Apply health information techniques and practices in a healthcare facility, from didactic instruction to facility setting.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of health information services in a healthcare facility.
  3. Use effective writing techniques on assignments.
  4. Communicate clearly and effectively with employees, instructors, administrative, and medical staff in all settings.
  5. Attend tours, meetings, and educational sessions with externship personnel, maintaining professionalism.
  6. Abide by the health information professions ethical standards and decision making practices.
  7. Discuss the major services provided by the department.
  8. Review and assist in updating department policies and procedures, job descriptions, and equipment and supplies.
  9. Perform activities in the externship setting.
