Covers the etiology, treatment, pharmacology, and prognosis of diseases associated with body systems.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:

  1. Differentiate between Physiology and Pathophysiology.
  2. Analyze the etiology of the disease and implications of the disease on different body systems.
  3. Distinguish the different pharmacological treatment options for certain health conditions and their therapeutic applications.
  4. Examine the outcomes of different pathologic conditions and effects on quality of life.
  5. Examine the role of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as well as the classification of drugs.
  6. Recognize drug classifications and categories, drug form, side effects, and adverse reactions of the most commonly prescribed drugs.
  7. Explain common drug safety regulations and impact of medication errors.
  8. Recognize abbreviations and system of measurements as they related to pharmacology.
  9. Read and interpret physician medication orders.
  10. Differentiate between trade, generic, and chemical names of drugs.
  11. Explain various routes of administration along with the advantages and disadvantages of the route.
