Covers the etiology, treatment, pharmacology, and prognosis of diseases associated with body systems.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Differentiate between Physiology and Pathophysiology.
- Analyze the etiology of the disease and implications of the disease on different body systems.
- Distinguish the different pharmacological treatment options for certain health conditions and their therapeutic applications.
- Examine the outcomes of different pathologic conditions and effects on quality of life.
- Examine the role of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics as well as the classification of drugs.
- Recognize drug classifications and categories, drug form, side effects, and adverse reactions of the most commonly prescribed drugs.
- Explain common drug safety regulations and impact of medication errors.
- Recognize abbreviations and system of measurements as they related to pharmacology.
- Read and interpret physician medication orders.
- Differentiate between trade, generic, and chemical names of drugs.
- Explain various routes of administration along with the advantages and disadvantages of the route.
