Provides the student with the opportunity to apply acquired health information technical knowledge in healthcare settings.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Apply health information techniques and practices in a healthcare facility, from didactic instruction to facility setting.
- Demonstrate knowledge of health information services in a healthcare facility.
- Use effective writing techniques on assignments.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with employees, instructors, administrative, and medical staff in all settings.
- Attend tours, meetings, and educational sessions with externship personnel, maintaining professionalism.
- Abide by the health information professions ethical standards and decision making practices.
- Discuss the major services provided by the department.
- Review and assist in updating department policies and procedures, job descriptions, and equipment and supplies.
- Perform activities in the externship setting.
