Addresses basic topics in infection control emphasizing practices and procedures in healthcare. Includes practices for healthcare environments (surfaces, rooms, etc) and practices for direct patient contact.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
- Outline the chain of infection
- Identify breaks in the chain of infection which lead to health infections
- Define Healthcare Associated Infections
- Compare health conditions with required patient isolations and caregiver precautions
- Exhibit proper handwashing technique
- Demonstrate proper personal protective equipment doning and doffing.
- Differentiate between hand washing and hand sanitizing.
- Identify the cleaning agent appropriate to the pathogen.
