This course introduces the fundamentals of housekeeping operations. Emphasis is placed on employee development, management skills, OSHA standards and property maintenance and up-keep. Budgeting, cost controls, proper staffing and planning a fiscal budget are also emphasized in this course.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Identify the various areas of the housekeeping department and its relationship to other key areas.
  2. Demonstrate through actual application the care and cleaning of guest rooms and public areas.
  3. Demonstrate through actual application proper procedures for operating a housekeeping department.
  4. Discuss key laws that pertain to the housekeeping department.
  5. Develop a set of budgetary controls for a successful housekeeping department.
