HSPS 108 - OSHA Regulations

Provides a study of the U. S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) regulations that pertain to protecting workers from exposure to occupational hazards. Students concentrate on researching, interpreting, summarizing, and applying the OSHA regulations.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Identify the purpose of the U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration and its relationship to other federal agencies. Additionally, identify the means of initiating a proactive relationship with OSHA.
  2. Find, interpret, summarize, and apply the safety and health standards in Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations and for new and proposed standards, in the Federal Register.
  3. Identify and apply the following approaches used to control employee hazard exposures: Worker Exposure Limits (PELS); Engineering Controls; and Restriction of Access.
  4. Identify and apply the following approaches needed to communicate workplace hazards; Information and Training Programs; Signs, Labels and Hazard Warnings; Medical and Exposure Surveillance Programs.
  5. Identify and apply the following approaches used to protect employees from hazard exposures; Personal Protective Equipment; and Emergency Evacuation and Response Plans.
