HSPS 143 - Plant Operations - Sanitary

Provides the basic principles of aerobic and anaerobic biological treatment processes, including activated sludge, trickling filters, lagoons, sludge handling and disinfection. Reviews state and federal regulations related to wastewater plants.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Explain aerobic and anaerobic treatment.
  2. Explain the principles of design and operation of primary, secondary and tertiary treatment, and sludge digestion.
  3. Perform basic operational calculations.
  4. Explain the NPDES regulations.
