HSPS 149 - Environmental Toxicology

Introduces students to the world of environmental toxicology and how it affects the air we breathe, the water we drink and the land we occupy. The different Federal and State rules enacted are studied and how the government implements enforcement.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Describe what environmental toxicology is and what it does to the community.
  2. Explain what the EPA has been able to enforce, what they cannot enforce, and what new laws are being drawn to improve our safety.
  3. Cite various hazards that are, can, and will be destroying the environment in the future.
  4. Describe briefly radiological effects on the human body and workers.
  5. Discuss genetic toxicology and systemic effects.
  6. List the techniques that are used to protect the general public against toxic chemicals.
