HUMA 202 - Humanities: Renaissance to Present

Introduces the student to a wide variety of unique creations of the individual imagination. The overall purpose of the course is to deepen and broaden the student’s enjoyment of the humanistic discipline at both the level of feeling and the level of understanding from the renaissance to the present.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Discuss the criteria for the humanistic disciplines.
  2. Describe the defining societal values of each of the major periods of civilization.
  3. Describe the distinguishing characteristics of each humanistic discipline studied for each of the major periods of civilization.
  4. Identify representative cultural contributors and works of each humanistic discipline for each period.
  5. Identify the relationship between societal values and characteristics of the humanistic disciplines.
  6. Analyze, interpret and evaluate the meaning of works in the humanities.
  7. Demonstrate an understanding of how image, rhythm, form and content exist in the arts.
  8. Demonstrate an increased awareness of the humanistic discipline in the world.
