HUMA 267 - Beginning Modern Dance Technique

Focuses on the development of beginning proficiency in the execution and practice of fundamental exercises and movements involved in modern dance. The course approaches modern dance as an art form, an entertainment medium and as a vehicle for self- expression. Active participation in the choreographic process and a performing opportunity will be provided. The course requires attendance at live dance performances to offer firsthand experience in the art of concert dance.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Compare and contrast modern dance to other dance mediums.
  2. Demonstrate modern dance techniques.
  3. Demonstrate proper stretching and strengthening exercises for modern dance.
  4. Discuss modern dance using basic dance terminology.
  5. Participate in live dance performances.
  6. Attend and critique dance performances.
  7. Analyze and discuss choreography.
  8. Follow stage directions.
