INDT 100 - Computer Fundamentals for Technology

Designed to integrate computer technology, decision-making and problem-solving skills by using multimedia technology and peripherals. Students will explore technology and the various forms it takes in the industrial world. Software and computer programs will be studied along with their computer applications. Students will also learn basic Windows operating system concepts, word processing, Excel spreadsheets, and research/ communication tools within the college.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon the successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Describe the broader uses of computers in industry, commerce, and personal applications.[f]
  2. Demonstrate the ability to use email to transfer information and files. [f]
  3. Demonstrate the ability to use the internet for research and computer applications used within the college. [f,g]
  4. Introduce the basic theory, operation and programming of programmable logic controllers. [a,f]
  5. Identify the types of graphs used in typical statistical process control (SPC) programs and be able to read the basic graphs. [g,i]
  6. Describe the features and considerations associated with the operation of a computer-aided design (CAD) system. [a,f]
  7. Create a document and perform basic editing functions using word processing software.[f]
  8. Create a spreadsheet, perform basic editing functions, and create graphs using spreadsheet software. [f]
