INDT 205 - Programmable Automation Controls I


PREREQUISITES: INDT 113 - Industrial Electrical I  or EECT 111 - Introduction to Circuit Analysis .

Introduces the basic theory, operation and programming of programmable logic controllers. Demonstrates programming examples, set-up examples and troubleshooting, as well as PLC timing, counting, arithmetic and logic and sequencers. This course will use lecture, lab, online simulation and programming to prepare students for the C- 207 Programmable Controller Systems 1 Certification through Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA).

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Review basic computer operations. [e]
  2. Program from relay logic to ladder logic diagrams. [a]
  3. Design timer circuits and logic circuits. [a]
  4. Describe logic circuits. [f]
  5. Describe the common parts of programmable controllers. [f]
  6. Program a start/stop circuit using a PLC. [a]
  7. Program counters and timers using a programmable controller. [a]
  8. Install and troubleshoot a simple programmable controller system. [b, e]
  9. Discuss input and output analog signals to/ from the PLC. [f]
  10. Discuss sequencers. [f]
  11. Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b, e]
  12. Demonstrate ability to use various types of software applicable to course. [a]
  13. Assess readiness to take the SACA C-207 Programmable Controller Systems 1 Certification exam. [h]
