IVYT 103 - Health and Wellness

Educates students about the importance of fitness/wellness in their everyday lives. Students will have the opportunity to customize their own behavioral plans for fitness/wellness.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Define fitness/wellness and the major areas they encompass.
  2. Assess their level of fitness and compare it to their baseline level of fitness taken at the beginning of the course, (includes blood pressure, resting heart rate, flexibility, muscle strength and endurance, body composition and aerobic capacity).
  3. Design a personal health and fitness plan and contract.
  4. Identify and design a sample healthy eating plan and incorporate it into their healthy lifestyle.
  5. Identify major risk factors for exercise based on real life cases.
  6. Discuss the interrelatedness of stress, nutrition, exercise and weight control for a healthy quality of life.
