LEGS 226 - Media and the Law

Media and the Law is designed as an in-depth investigation of a single case that has received substantial media attention. Students will examine the media’s presentation of the case and discuss how that aligns with or differs from our court system and its processes. Course is designed to allow students to take a leadership role in the course and with a focus on improving critical-thinking skills.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Discuss the media’s presentation of a court case.
  2. Examine the procedural status of the case and determine if there could be any future litigation within the specific case.
  3. Compare the court system where the case was tried and/or appealed with other court systems.
  4. Discuss constitutional and ethical issues within the context of a court case.
