LEGS 256 - Virtual Online Paralegal Practicum Experience PREREQUISITES: Program Chair or Designee Approval. PROGRAM: Legal Studies and Paralegal Studies CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
The Virtual Online Paralegal Practicum allows the student to experience a hands on environment, similar to working in a law office. The student will have the opportunity to work as a virtual paralegal for a hypothetical law firm. Students will be interacting with attorneys, staff and paralegals through a Law Simulation Series. The student will be given various tasks including, but not limited to: research, client interviews, writing correspondence, writing interoffice memoranda, reading depositions, etc.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Apply program knowledge within a simulated law office environment.
- Implement textbook materials with hands-on experience and vice versa.
- Evaluate and write about the learning experience in the classroom versus a simulated law office.
