MAMO 203 - Mammography Clinical Education II


PREREQUISITES: Program Chair Approval.

This is the second of two rotations through either one or various clinical sites to allow the student to acquire competency in the field of Mammography. During the clinical rotations the student is required to use the knowledge acquired in the cognitive domain to display appropriate behavior in the affective domain and to build skills in the psychomotor domain. This is accomplished by radiographing actual patients under controlled conditions.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student is expected to:

  1. Demonstrate competency in the principles of radiation protection standards.
  2. Apply the principles of total quality management.
  3. Report equipment malfunctions.
  4. Examine procedure orders for accuracy and make corrective actions when applicable.
  5. Demonstrate safe, ethical and legal practices.
  6. Maintain patient confidentiality standards and meet HIPAA requirements.
  7. Adhere to national, institutional and departmental standards, policies and procedures regarding care of patients, providing radiologic procedures and reducing medical errors.
  8. Select technical factors to produce quality diagnostic images with the lowest radiation exposure possible.
  9. Critique images for appropriate anatomy, image quality and patient identification.
  10. Determine corrective measures to improve inadequate images.
