MEDL 279 - Clinical Pathology

A review course in preparation for the National Registry Examination and will include current testing procedures, disease conditions, diagnosis, etiologies, clinical symptoms and related laboratory findings.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course, the student will be expected to:

  1. Discuss the etiology of various diseases, syndromes, and conditions presented.
  2. State the clinical symptoms of the disease, syndromes, and conditions presented.
  3. State the names of laboratory tests most commonly employed as an aid in the diagnosis of these diseases, syndromes, and conditions presented, relating results of tests to the process involved.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to research and acquire information as it relates to clinical laboratory science.
  5. Analyze patient results, disease, condition, or syndrome using case history material presented.
  6. Select laboratory procedures and demonstrate skills necessary to teach the procedures to a classmate.
  7. Discuss and apply confidentiality and legal requirements to selected case scenarios.
  8. Review professionalism and expectations for laboratory personnel.
