The study of the human body with particular emphasis on those systems providing the foundation for embalming, pathology, public health and restorative arts.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Define anatomical terminology and body organization sufficient to communicate effectively with fellow allied health professionals, as well as with the lay public.
- Compare and contrast among anatomical guides, linear guides, and anatomical limits and explain selected topographical regions
- Compare and contrast the different categories of articulations, listing examples of each.
- Identify and describe the major layers and accessory structures of the integumentary system.
- Identify the major subdivisions of the skeletal system (list and identify individual bones, their numbers, and their important functions.)
- Identify major and accessory organs of the digestive system and identify the entry to exit point through the system.
- Identify organs of the urinary system and trace the flow of urine through the system.
- Identify the major organs of the male and female reproductive systems.
- Identify the major organs of the respiratory system and trace the flow of air during inhalation and exhalation. Differentiate between internal and external respiration.
- Identify and describe the flow of blood through the major vessels of the cardiovascular system.
- Identify the major structures and functions of the cardiovascular system, the blood vascular system, arterial circulation, venus system, and components of the blood.
- Identify the major organs and vessels of the lymphatic system.
- Identify the location and function of selected endocrine structures
- Discuss the major structures and subdivisions of the nervous system.
- Locate and identify selected skeletal muscles.
