MPRO 102 - Introduction to Print Reading

Provides an introduction to reading and interpreting machine shop symbols, machining blueprints and working drawings used in trades and crafts. Focuses on dimension, shape, fabrication and assembly. Applies basic mathematics to the solution of print interpretation.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate a knowledge of blueprints with attention to signs, symbols and abbreviations.
  2. Read the scale on a steel rule.
  3. Identify the various lines found on prints.
  4. Interpret the various views found on prints.
  5. Interpret various location dimensions found on prints including circles, arcs and angles.
  6. external and internal threads.
  7. Develop understanding of the metric system.
  8. Interpret tolerances designated on prints.
  9. Interpret surface finish symbols and specifications.
  10. Interpret geometric tolerance symbols and their usage on prints.
  11. Interpret standard machine finish symbols found on prints.
  12. Interpret hydraulic system symbols used on prints.
  13. Interpret instrumentation symbols used on prints.
