MPRO 103 - Manufacturing Automation

Introduces the basic concepts of robotics and types factory automation used in manufacturing. This course will provide knowledge in the areas of robot safety, robot types, and robotic applications. The common types of factory automation will be identified.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Describe the history of robotics.
  2. Identify the potential dangers associated with robot movements
  3. Identify the pinch points in a robotic work cell.
  4. Describe the safety precautions associated with teaching pendant operation.
  5. Define robot coordinate systems.
  6. Describe the types of robot end effectors and the process each performs.
  7. Define the common types of factory automation.
  8. Describe the role of PLC systems in manufacturing.
