Introduces the different types of work-holding devices, their uses, advantages and disadvantages in CNC milling and lathe machines. The devices will be expanded to include manual and hydraulic work- holding devices. Topics will also include the different types of cutting fluids, coolants and oils used in advanced machining production equipment.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Identify the different types of work-holding devices
  2. Determine the correct method of holding material for fabrication.
  3. Identify the components of a typical hydraulic system.
  4. Explain when hydraulics systems should be used in connection to work-holding devices.
  5. Select the most appropriate coolants and oils based on the material and method of fabrication.
