MPRO 205 - Manufacturing Metals PROGRAM: Manufacturing Production and Operations CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 3 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
Introduces the basic concepts of metals including composition, properties, and usage in Manufacturing. Both ferrous and non-ferrous materials will be examined in the course. The course will also provide an overview of the principles and practices of heat treatment of metals.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify the mechanical properties of steels and alloys.
- Describe the crystalline structure of metals.
- Describe the theory of failure and deformation of metals.
- Identify the mechanical properties of non-ferrous materials.
- Describe the structure of non-ferrous materials.
- Describe the theory of failure and deformation of non-ferrous materials.
- Describe the theory of heat treatment of metals.
- Define the types of heat treating processes.
