MPRO 207 - Production Machine Tooling

Introduces the basic concepts of production machine tooling setup and adjustments. Tooling used in both milling and turning is introduced. ANSI standards for insert and machine tooling are defined.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Outline appropriate milling tool geometry.
  2. Explain appropriate turning tool geometry.
  3. Identify proper drill and tap requirements for ANSI standard bolt sizes.
  4. Identify major parts of a milling cutter.
  5. Determine proper turning tools to bore holes in shafts made of aluminum and ferrous materials.
  6. Identify inserts according to ANSI standards.
  7. Select proper use of personal protective equipment required for machining tasks.
  8. Describe the differences between single point tools versus multi-point tooling.
