MRTC 127 - Motorcycle Engine Service and Repair


PREREQUISITES: MRTC 107 - Motorcycle Engine Principles and Design

This course studies precision tools, equipment, and procedures needed to repair today’s modern engine. Repair, proper assemble, and installation techniques applicable to the modern engine are included.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Demonstrate proper shop safety practices while overhauling and repairing engines.
  2. Identify tools and equipment used in engine repair.
  3. Inspect and determine serviceability of cylinder heads according to manufacturer specifications.
  4. Inspect and determine serviceability of cylinder block according to recommended manufacturer specifications.
  5. Inspect or replace core plugs.
  6. Install cam bearings according to manufacturer specifications.
  7. Inspect connecting rod and pistons.
  8. Measure the crankshaft and determine serviceability.
  9. Diagnose and or repair of the oil lubrication system.
  10. Install piston rings according to manufacturer specifications.
  11. Install connecting rod and main bearings according to manufacturer specifications.
  12. Assemble engine according to industry specifications.
  13. Inspect camshaft, timing components to manufacturer specifications.
  14. Inspect cooling system for needed repair.
  15. Perform R & R of engine and related components.
