MRTC 209 - Fuel and Ignition Systems PROGRAM: Automotive Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 2 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Summer, 2011
This course covers the basic theory and operation of ignition, fuel, emission, and engine systems of motorcycles. Carburetion, fuel injection and computer control basics will be covered. Basic service and replacement procedures and techniques will also be covered.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate proper shop safety practices while working with engine performance equipment and chemicals.
- Identify tools and test equipment used in fuel/ignition system service.
- Explain 2 stroke and 4 stroke cycle operation.
- Explain operating requirements of an internal combustion engine.
- Identify and explain the operation, construction, and nomenclature of fuel systems.
- Identify and explain the operation, construction, and nomenclature of ignition systems.
- Identify and explain the operation, construction, and nomenclature of emission systems.
- Identify and explain the operation, construction, and nomenclature of computer systems.
- Demonstrate basic engine systems test procedures.
- Demonstrate basic service and replacement procedures.
- Remove and install most common parts related to fuel and ignition systems.
