MTTC 280 - Co-op or Internship PREREQUISITES: Program Advisor Approval. PROGRAM: Machine Tool Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 1 CO-OP/INTERNSHIP HOURS MIN: 15 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
This course will provide qualifying students an opportunity to work at a job site and/or Ivy Tech machine tool lab that is specifically related to their career objective. This class will provide or replicate “on-the-job experience” while earning credit toward an Associate of Applied Science degree.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate proper machine tool shop practices. [a]
- Identify tools used in Co-op or Internship. [h]
- Adhere to all employment requirements of the host worksite and/or Ivy Tech campus. [h]
- Complete evaluation forms and return to the Program Chairperson. [f]
- Journal list of daily tasks performed. [f]
- Work in a machining facility and/or Ivy Tech campus doing typical machining tasks. [h]
- Strive to achieve efficient time on tasks. [h]
- Utilize advanced machines and tools to complete assigned projects or production. [h]
- Manufacture parts to verbal and engineered drawing specifications. [b,c]
COURSE CONTENT: Topical areas of study include -
- Production Orders
- Estimate production time
- Teamwork in a machine shop
- Generate tool lists
- Machinery preventative maintenance
- Generate production plans
- Machine Setup both Manual and CNC
- Run production parts
- Keep a daily Journal of all shop tasks
- Inspect production parts
