NANO 100 - Fundamentals of Nanotechnology

This course provides an introduction to the field of nanotechnology. The course starts with a review of the history of nanotechnology and continues with a description of characterization techniques, top-down nanofabrication, bottom-up nanofabrication and the impact of nanotechnology on other areas of science and technology.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Understand nanotechnology terminology.
  2. Delineate the history of nanotechnology.
  3. Understand the uniqueness of the nano-scale.
  4. Describe the characterization techniques.
  5. Know nanofabrication processes.
  6. Be familiar with top-down nanofabrication.
  7. Be familiar with bottom-up nanofabrication.
  8. Understand the impact of nanotechnology on medicine and biology.
  9. Understand the impact of nanotechnology on microelectronics.
