Introduces the student to logic as a field of philosophy by examining the structure of argument and applying critical thinking skills.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Understand what is logic and propositional knowledge.
- Identify different kinds of definitions and their implications.
- Understand the nature of argument.
- Explore inductive and deductive reasoning.
- Examine the status of truth in an argument.
- Identify fallacious reasoning.
- Apply logic to and compose valid arguments.
- Understand fallacy and a truth test.
- Understand the relationship between language and logic.
