Explores approaches and methods in traditional and alternative portraiture in studio and on-location photography. Emphasizes creative approaches to commercial portraiture as well as lighting and posing for corrective portraiture.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of studio portrait lighting including: short and broad, as well as split, loup, Rembrandt, and paramount lighting.
- Work effectively with both strobe and hot lights in creating portraits.
- Demonstrate professional color choices for subjects.
- Demonstrate the ability to create a mood in portraiture.
- Create portraits which succeed in competing with other area professionals.
- Create marketable portraits.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively with various background materials and props for studio and location portraiture.
- Demonstrate ability to work with natural lighting and outdoors in creating portraits.
- Exhibit knowledge of photographic composition in created work.
- Work effectively with both traditional and digital media to create portraits.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with a variety of successful poses.
- Demonstrate knowledge of corrective portraiture.
- Demonstrate a personal style of working with portraiture.
- Demonstrate an ability to work with traditional and nontraditional portrait methods.
- Demonstrate the ability to direct subjects in a professional manner.
