PHOT 214 - Journalistic and Editorial Photography

Gives students the opportunity to photograph events and human interest features to gain experience in contributions to various publications. Emphasizes establishing visual relationships in the photo essay.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Create editorial photographs for a variety of publications.
  2. Identify appropriate journalistic practices.
  3. Relate all photographs visually with one another.
  4. Create captions for photographs.
  5. Identify and discuss those historical events/photographers in photography that have an impact on present-day journalistic and editorial practice.
  6. Identify important photographers and their work by examining slides and websites.
  7. Name and describe several present-day concerns of a social, political, or ethical, or psychological nature.
  8. Exhibit a working knowledge of merging traditional and digital working techniques.
  9. Build a mini portfolio of journalistic and editorial work.
