PTAS 101 - Introduction to the Physical Therapist Assistant


PREREQUISITES: Demonstrated competency through appropriate assessment or earning a grade of “C” or better in required 0 level English and/or Math courses.

Explores the history and concepts of physical therapy, physical therapist assisting and rehabilitative medicine. Introduces fundamentals of patient care including standard precautions; body substance isolation; OSHA guidelines, patient assessment including vital signs; body mechanics; and patient handling with applications of physics principles. Includes preparation of patients, treatment areas and equipment.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:
