RADT 116 - Radiographic Clinical Education II

Content and clinical practice experiences shall be designed for sequential development, application, critical analysis, integration, synthesis and evaluation of concepts and theories in the performance of radiologic procedures. Through structured sequential, competency-based assignments in clinical settings, concepts of team practice, patient- centered clinical practice and professional development shall be discussed, examined and evaluated.

Clinical practice experiences shall be designed to provide patient care and assessment, competent performance of Radiologic imaging and total quality management. Levels of competency and outcomes measurement shall ensure the well being of the patient preparatory to, during and following the radiologic procedure.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student is expected to:

  1. Execute imaging procedures under the appropriate level of supervision.
  2. Integrate the use of appropriate and effective written, oral and nonverbal communication with patients, health professionals, and the general public in the clinical setting.
  3. Evaluate the patient’s status including psychological and physical condition before, during and following the radiologic procedure to demonstrate competence in assessment skills.
  4. Adapt procedures to meet age-specific, disease-specific, gender, and cultural needs of patients.
  5. Apply standard and transmission-based precautions.
  6. Demonstrate competency in the principles of radiation protection standards to include time, distance, shielding and radiation monitoring.
  7. Acts consistently to comply with HIPAA standards.
  8. Carry out principles of transferring, positioning, immobilizing and restraining patients.
  9. Adhere to national, institutional and/or department standards, policies and procedures regarding care of patients, provision of radiologic procedures, reduction of medical errors, and administration.
  10. Critique images and determine corrective measures for appropriate clinical information and image quality.
