RADT 221 - Pharmacology and Advanced Procedures

Cover theories and principles of current imaging modalities. Content is also designed to cover contrast media along with the theory and basic technique of venipuncture. The role of the radiographer during medical emergencies is also addressed in this course.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Describe the modalities of imaging and their basic principles.
- Select the modalities that best visualize the body system and/or a disease.
- Describe the radiographer’s role in application of special procedures.
- Understand drug nomenclature
- Describe the methods of drug classifications
- Know the general pharmacological principles
- Recite the six rights of drug administration
- Discuss the drug categories that have relevance to radiography
- Classify contrast agents
- Identify routes of injection
- Start and stop IV therapy
- Explain the current legal and ethical status of radiographer’s role in venipuncture
- Explain steps in medical emergencies
- Understands positioning skills during non-routine procedures
