Examines legal and business issues affecting the professional visual artist.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Recognize copyrights and infringement.
- Protect personal work with copyrights.
- Identify the moral, economic, social and ethical ramifications of advertising and promotion.
- List careers and the professional bodies associated with the various visual communication disciplines.
- Describe the pros and cons of self-employment.
- Understand the legal and other restraints on advertising and promotion.
- Understand Tax issues.
- Understand the principles of estimating and pricing.
- Understand the purpose and implementation of writing contracts.
- Avoid disputes with clients.
- Utilize a computer in the managing of a business in the Visual Arts.
- Recognize and identify diversity, globalization, and ethnicity in the workplace and marketplace.
- Write a comprehensive research paper dealing with a visual communications business practice.
