VISC 207 - Portfolio Preparation


PREREQUISITES: Program Advisor Approval and ENGL 111 - English Composition  and MATH 1XX Mathematics Elective.

Provides advanced facilitation focusing on the students’ final preparation for the Visual Communications pathways into industry or college transfer. Requires a portfolio development plan to be approved by the instructor. Finalizes project work in a culminating digital portfolio demonstrating acquired knowledge and skills, along with a consistently branded resume package, and professional presentation.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

  1. Analyze existing portfolios to refine or develop a body of work.
  2. Produce a professional digital and/or hard copy portfolio with regionally determined- contents, which demonstrates proficiency in problem solving and program skills.
  3. Compose a resume package including but not limited to a resume, cover letter, business card or marketing materials.
  4. Make a formal oral portfolio presentation(s) to peers, faculty, industry representatives and/or high school class.
  5. Articulate personal goals, career goals, work ethic, opportunities for citizenship and/or opportunities for life-long learning.
  6. Establish a professional digital and/or social media presence.
  7. Examine expectations of a job interview.

General Education Outcomes:

All associate degree graduates must complete the Ivy Tech General Education assessment in their capstone course. This is a capstone course requirement. The instructor will advise when and how the assessment will be administered. Performance on the assessment will be part of the course grade. Please consult your instructor with questions.
