WELD 109 - Oxy-Fuel Gas Welding and Cutting PROGRAM: Industrial Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 1 LAB HOURS MIN: 4 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
Offers basic instruction in oxy-fuel welding with emphasis on welding techniques in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Includes brazing, soldering and flame cutting. Focuses on safety hazards and safe practices in oxy-fuel welding and cutting.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Describe safety practices used with oxy-fuel equipment. [a,c,e,f]
- Demonstrate safety devices used with oxygen and acetylene cylinders. [a,c, e,f]
- Demonstrate proper start-up and shut down procedures. [a,c,e,f]
- Describe the different types of fuel gases used. [a,c,e,f]
- Describe proper methods of storing, using and shipping gas cylinders. [a,c,e,f]
- Identify the A.W.S. classification for filler materials. [e,f]
- Determine the correct tip size for welding and cutting. [a,e]
- Determine the correct methods of performing cutting operations. [a,e]
- Perform butt, lap tee and corner joint welds in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on mild steel plates. [a,e]
- Perform brazing and soldering on butt, lap, and tee joints on mild steel and/or copper. [a,e]
- Perform straight, bevel, and circular cuts on a mild steel plate. [a,e]
- Perform a bevel cut on 6” schedule 80 pipe with hand-held torch. [a,e]
