SMDI 150 - Fluid Power in Manufacturing

This course will introduce students to fluid power components, principles, and applications as they relate to smart manufacturing.  Technical documentation will be used to identify and design complex systems.  Students will learn the integration of sensors in hydraulic and/or pneumatic automated solution(s).   In addition to many hands-on activities, students will utilize simulation and theoretical approaches to diagnose, solve, and design systems that are utilized in today’s manufacturing.  These activities will prepare students for SACA C-209, Certified Industry 4.0 Pneumatic Systems 1, and SACA C-255, Certified Industry 4.0 Hydraulic Systems I certification exam.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:

 

  1. Demonstrate proper safety precautions related to equipment. [c]
  2. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of various types of fluid power components that may be used in a smart manufacturing system.  [f]
  3. Utilize fluid power laws to analyze and build fluid power systems to obtain the desired results/requirements of the system.  [a, b, e, i]
  4. Demonstrate ability to read and interpret technical documents. [b,e]
  5. Recognize how equipment monitoring plays a major role in predictive maintenance.  [a, b, f]
  6. Demonstrate an ability to select the appropriate components to build a smart manufacturing system.  [a, b, c, e, f, g, h]
  7. Compare and differentiate the use of sensors in fluid power and their effects on an automated system.  [a, b, e, f]
  8. Recall fundamental content to meet/exceed the cut-score for the SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) C-209 Certified Industry 4.0 - Pneumatic Systems 1 - Silver Certification.  [h]
  9. Demonstrate skills to obtain the SACA C-209 Certified Industry 4.0 Pneumatic Systems 1 - Gold Certification at a 100% of skill standard. [a, b, c, e, f, g, h]
  10. Recall fundamental content to meet/exceed the cut-score for the SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance) C-255 Certified Industry 4.0 - Hydraulic Systems 1 - Silver Certification.  [h]
