AUTI 100 - Basic Automotive Service PROGRAM: Automotive Service CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2019
This course gives students an overview of the operating and general maintenance systems of the modern automobile. Students will be introduced to the safety and operation of equipment and tools used in the automotive industry. Students will study the maintenance and light repair of automotive systems. In addition, this course will prepare students to take a nationally recognized certification exam.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Identify proper shop safety practices while in the labs. (a,b,f)
- Identify tools & fasteners used in automotive repair. (b, f)
- Identify and explain how the automotive repair industry is structured. (g, h, i)
- Identify and explain operation of the 8 major systems of the automobile. (e)
- Identify and explain what EPA, CAFÉ and NHTSA regulations are and how they affect the automotive industry. (f, g, h, i)
- Identify and perform basic service and maintenance procedures. (a, b, f, h)
- Attain readiness to take Shop Key Pro exam. (b, c)
- Attain readiness to take SP/2 Mechanical Safety exam. (b, c)
- Attain readiness to take SP/2 Pollution Prevention exam. (b, c)
