CONT 101 - Introduction to Construction Technology PROGRAM: Construction Technology CREDIT HOURS MIN: 3 LECTURE HOURS MIN: 2 LAB HOURS MIN: 2 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Spring, 2014
Presents history of building construction to present-day applications emphasizing future trends and construction as a career. Provides practice in the operation, maintenance and safety of various tools including the builder’s level and transit.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Demonstrate safe practices and procedures with construction tools.
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic shop and workplace safety.
- Properly use basic construction hand tools.
- Set-up and properly use levels and transits.
- Demonstrate the proper use of portable power tools.
- Demonstrate the proper set-up and use of stationary power tools.
- Interpret plans, specifications and codes.
- Apply the use of construction tools in the creation of a lab project built to plans or specifications.
- Think critically and independently analyze, synthesize, and evaluate technical problems and information.
- Identify and interpret health, safety, and welfare standards as dictated by local, state or federal agencies.
- Understand the OSHA 10 Hour Certification requirements
