CPIN 280 - Computing and Informatics CO-OP/Internship/Externship PREREQUISITES: Program Advisor Approval. PROGRAM: Computing and Informatics CREDIT HOURS MIN: 1 CREDIT HOURS MAX: 6 INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP HOURS MIN: 5 INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP HOURS MAX: 30 DATE OF LAST REVISION: Fall, 2014
Provides students with the opportunity to work at a job site that is specifically related to their career objectives. Provides on-the-job experience while earning credit toward an associate degree. Fourth semester standing and a cumulative GPA of 2. 0 or better is recommended for Internship students.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Discuss and demonstrate how concepts and skills learned in the classroom environment apply to the work environment.
- Discuss the importance of written and oral communication skills in the workplace.
- Identify the most important technical knowledge and skills needed in the job assignment given to them.
- Compare and contrast the student’s expectations of the internship and actual experience.
- Summarize the knowledge, skills, and experience gained on the internship and be able to apply these to the next job the student obtains.
- Learn how to adapt to the work environment.
- Demonstrate acceptable interview skills.
- Prepare a professional report documenting the co-op/internship experience.
