Prepares students for the demands of reading and writing in a variety of college-level courses. Cross disciplinary materials are used in an integrated approach to reading, writing, and critical thinking. Supplements and Supports coursework delivered in ENGL 111 .
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be expected to:- Develop critical reading and writing skills
- Develop an understanding of how the components of the rhetorical situation relate to the reading and writing processes
- Develop strategies for the composition process such as drafting, collaborating, revising, and peer evaluating to support the production of written documents.
- Apply the conventions of standard written English
- Establish a systematic approach to improve reading, vocabulary, and comprehension
- Introduce and apply the research and documentation process-APA or MLA
- Develop strategies for making independent critical evaluations of student and published texts, which demonstrates proficiency in reading and writing, evaluating, analyzing, and using material collected from various types of sources.
