This is an introductory course designed to provide students with the knowledge of the proper function and installation methods of flashing for masonry veneer of frame constructions as recommended by the International Masonry Institute.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  1. Explain the importance of flashing in the performance of a masonry wall.
  2. Discuss options for flashing and drainage materials.
  3. List practical installation guidelines for flashing.
  4. Demonstrate an awareness and advantages of the available systems and materials.
  5. Identify proper safety guidelines when performing proper installation methods of flashing.
  6. Have basic knowledge of specific function of flashings, weeps/vents, drainage planes, air spaces, and masonry units as related to the performance of the wall.
  7. Identify proper flashing installation at outer, inner and pre-fabricated corners.
  8. Review and understand new materials and technologies
