An introduction to plant biology and soil science.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course the student will be expected to:
- Explain the relationships between economically important plants and how they fit into modern plant taxonomy.
- Describe the major anatomical features of monocot and dicot plants.
- Explain the processes of photosynthesis and respiration in plants.
- Differentiate between sexual and asexual reproduction.
- Describe the techniques used to propagate plants sexually and asexually.
- Describe how biotechnology is used in agriculture and horticulture.
- Describe the texture, structure, color and organic matter content in a typical soil.
- Explain how different soil types affect productivity, drainage and fertility.
