NSGA 143 - Health & Wellness Lifespan Lab


PREREQUISITES: Admission to the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program
PREREQUISITES/COREQUISITE: NSGA 140 Intro to Nursing Concepts and Clinical Judgment, NSGA 142 Health and Wellness Across the Lifespan

Performs in the role of the registered nurse in providing for basic psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs that foster health and wellness for the patient across the lifespan.  Demonstrates therapeutic communication, holistic health assessment and health promotion to diverse populations across the lifespan.  Engages in patient-centered care by using therapeutic techniques that promote nurse-patient relationships and foster intra- and interdisciplinary collaboration.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

  1. Demonstrate therapeutic communication techniques that develop the nurse-patient relationship with diverse populations across the life-span and promote intra- and interprofessional collaboration with health care teams. (SLO 1 & SLO 4)
  2. Demonstrate the importance of promoting safe environments for patients across the lifespan based on holistic health assessment findings. (SLO 1 & SLO 2)
  3. Performs assessment of patients across the lifespan, understanding normal and abnormal variations of findings while recognizing patients and their families as unique individuals with varied preferences, values, and needs. (SLO 1)
  4. Identify an evidenced-based systematic approach to collection of health assessment data for individuals across the lifespan. (SLO 1)
  5. Recognize variables that affect patient mobility and demonstrate interventions that promote safe patient handling and movement across the lifespan. (SLO 1, SLO 2, & SLO 5)
