Introduces students to the role of the registered nurse in providing safe patient care according to established policies within the diverse healthcare setting. Provides an overview of the safety and ethical principles utilized in the provision of patient care across the life span. Examines the nurse’s role as the provider and manager of patient care within the intra- and interdisciplinary team.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Identify therapeutic communication techniques utilized when collaborating within the intra- and interdisciplinary team. (SLO 4)
- Describe techniques utilized in creating and maintaining a safe patient care environment. (SLO 1)
- Understand the role of the registered nurse in providing patient care while adhering to ethical principles and established healthcare policies. (SLO 6)
- Demonstrate knowledge of nursing principles utilized in management of patient care including prioritization, delegation, and resource utilization. (SLO 2 & SLO 3)
- Discuss the importance of utilizing technology and informatics systems to provide safe patient care. (SLO 5)
- Explore the concept of diversity and equity in the provision of safe patient centered care. (SLO 1)
