CREDIT HOURS MIN: 5 Introduces concept based learning and clinical judgment. Focuses on the transition to the role of the registered nurse. Employs professional principles to guide practice as a registered nurse. Examines the role of the registered nurse in applying clinical judgment, management of safe and effective care, and implementing the ordered plan of treatment as it relates to patients experiencing alterations in health and wellness.
MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Describe the scope of practice and level of individual accountability and responsibility of the registered nurse as a member of the inter/intraprofessional healthcare team. (SLO 6)
- Identify therapeutic communication techniques that develop the nurse-client relationship and promote inter/intraprofessional collaboration with health care teams. (SLO 4)
- Discuss the impact of health promotion, disease prevention, and health disparities to promote healthy outcomes in a variety of diverse groups across the lifespans. (SLO 3 & SLO 6)
- Explore the concept of diversity and equity in the provision of safe patient centered care. (SLO 1)
- Identify basic nutritional concepts of patients across the life span. (SLO 1)
- Discuss the transition to the role of the registered nurse. (SLO 6)
- Demonstrate knowledge of nursing principles utilized in management of patient care including ethical principles, healthcare policies, prioritization, delegation, and resource utilization. (SLO 2, 3, 6)
- Describe the etiology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations of patients with alterations in health and wellness. (SLO 1)
