Examine the transition to the role of the registered nurse. Performs therapeutic communication, patient assessment, and data collection skills to develop clinical judgment in the care of diverse patient populations.  Participates in the nursing skills needed to provide safe patient care across the lifespan.  Apply theoretical knowledge and ethical, culturally competent, and safe care for clients experiencing non-complex alterations in health.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Demonstrate therapeutic communication techniques that develop the nurse-client relationship with diverse populations across the life-span and promote inter/intraprofessional collaboration with health care teams. (SLO 1 & SLO 4)
  2. Demonstrate the importance of promoting safe environments for patients across the life span based on holistic health assessment findings. (SLO 1 & SLO 2)
  3. Perform comprehensive assessment skills to patients across the lifespan. (SLO 1) 
  4. Recognize variables that affect patient mobility and demonstrate interventions that promote safe patient handling and movement across the life-span. (SLO 1, SLO 2, & SLO 5)
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of nursing principles utilized in management of patient care including prioritization, delegation, and resource utilization. (SLO 2 & 3)
  6. Applies clinical judgment for patients experiencing alterations in health. (SLO 2)
  7. Demonstrates effective use of technology by using multiple resources to provide safe, high quality, evidence-based patient care. (SLO 1, 5)
  8. Demonstrates safe administration of medications within the scope of a registered nurse. (SLO 1 & SLO 6)
