Explores the role of the licensed practical nurse.  Utilizes clinical judgment to provide safe, effective and culturally competent care.  Demonstrates nursing skills in laboratory and clinical settings.  Applies fundamental principles of basic care and comfort, coordination of care, safety and infection control, health assessment, and physiological integrity.

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
  1. Utilize the scope of practice, roles and level of the individual and responsibility of the licensed practical nurse as a member of the health care team. (SLO 4)
  2. Demonstrate concepts utilized to promote a culture of caring and comfort that promotes respect for individual patient preferences across the lifespan. (SLO 1, 6).
  3. Engage in communication practices that promote care collaboration within the health care team.  (SLO 4, 5)
  4. Incorporate fundamental principles of nursing documentation and use of the electronic health record. (SLO 5)
  5. Exhibit competencies in health assessment within the scope of practice of the licensed practical nurse.  (SLO 2, 6)
