Examines the role of the licensed practical nurse in providing safe, collaborative care for families across a variety of healthcare settings. Understands wellness/prevention, disease etiology, and pharmacology. Explores health disparities and diversity to guide safe, effective care for families across a variety of healthcare settings. 

 

MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Examine available resources for patients, families, and communities experiencing health disparities. (SLO 3)
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of therapeutic communication while collaborating with intra- and interdisciplinary teams to promote improved outcomes for patients and their families. (SLO 3, 4, 6)
  3. Examine the role of the practical nurse in applying clinical judgment to the care of the reproductive, family, and community health patients across a variety of healthcare settings. (SLO 2)
  4. Understand principles of pharmacological treatments in care of reproductive, family, and community health patients. (SLO 1, 5)
  5. Explore nutritional concepts of patients across the life span in diverse and inclusive populations. (SLO 1) 
  6. Reinforce teaching-learning strategies for patients, families, and the community.  (SLO 1, 2, 4)
