WHY CHOOSE THIS PROGRAM?

The biology program allows students to learn from trained experts and industry researchers. Each biology course exposes students to an array of life-science topics and hands-on laboratory training experiences.

About the Biology Program

The biology program at Ivy Tech focuses on the life and physical sciences, allowing students to explore various biology topics through elective courses including molecular biology, genetics, and ecology. From studying gene expression to examining the complex relationships between organisms and the environment, students earn a well-rounded understanding of biology through in-person classes, online courses, and lab exercises.

Biology instructors come from diverse career backgrounds including ecology, biotechnology, academic research, and biomedical engineering. Exposure to these diverse backgrounds and topics better prepare our students to enter the field after completing their associate degree or for transferring to a four-year university.

Our Graduates

Graduates of the biology program will be able to work in a variety of jobs such as biological science lab technicians, forest conservation technicians, and medical laboratory technicians. Ivy Tech students can also transfer to a four-year university, complete an undergraduate degree, and find additional career opportunities in genetic counseling, medicine, agriculture, marine biology, and many other fields.

Transfer Partners

Graduates of our Associate of Science (AS) degree can seamlessly transfer to a four-year school through our “Transfer as a Junior” program, entering at a junior status. To learn more about our Transfer as a Junior programs, and how they can save you money, visit our TSAP page. Please keep in mind, you will also need to be admitted to the four-year institution you intend to transfer to, admission is not guaranteed just by enrolling in a Transfer as a Junior program.

If you would like to earn your bachelor’s degree in biology education after completing your time at Ivy Tech, we have several transfer partnerships. Talk to your transfer advocate for more information about transfer opportunities!

Completion Guides

Completion guides provide the recommended path to graduation, broken out by 8-week term. Courses are also numbered to show an overall number for students taking fewer classes at a time. Please consult with your advisor to determine which classes are the best option for you to take.
